Position: Executive Director of the Council on Aging

Overview and Responsibilities:

The Town of Nahant is seeking a highly competent Executive Director to lead the Council on Aging into the future. Candidates must be a highly motivated self-starter. This position requires compassion, patience and a true love for people. We are looking for someone to adhere to our mission statement, “The mission of the Nahant Council on Aging is to provide physical, emotional, and mental stimulation enabling those sixty and over to achieve engaged and fulfilling lives in a safe environment.”

  • The primary responsibility of the Executive Director is to carry out the policies set by the COA Board and to manage the day to day operation of the COA
  • The Executive Director, along with the Assistant, coordinates the daily activities of the COA. Attends all Board meetings set by the COA Board and assists the COA Board in preparing meeting agendas
  • The Executive Director is responsible for preparing and managing annual budgets with the assistance of the COA Board.
  • The Executive Director is responsible for preparing, filing and maintaining all financial and administrative records, as may be required.
  • The Executive Director will be required to work with local agencies as well as the state to apply and write grants which are a necessary source of revenue.
  • The Executive Director is responsible for the care and use of the COA property, including maintenance and repair and the development of a comprehensive maintenance program for COA facilities and equipment and to maintain a full and accurate inventory of COA real and personal property.
  • The Executive Director is responsible for administering personnel policies, practices, or rules and regulations as they relate to service contracts, employees and volunteers of the COA.
  • The Executive Directory is responsible for the hiring and firing of employees, i.e. cooks, assistants and bus drivers; contractors, i.e., exercise instructors, cleaning companies and volunteers.

Temporary Assistant Health Nurse
Job Posting - January 21, 2021 - 4 PM

Position: Temporary Assistant Public Health Nurse

Duties and Responsibilities: Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Health assessment, prevention of the spread of communicable disease, emergency planning, and all public health responsibilities as mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The Assistant Public Health Nurse shall also follow-up on disease reports and investigations, enforcement of isolating and quarantine regulations, and control of outbreaks. Other services include immunization and screening clinics, home visits, and community outreach and education. Reports directly and works under the direction of the Public Health Nurse.

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include current R.N. license from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing and possess a valid driver’s license and registered vehicle. Two years of nursing experience; public health experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Current certification in BLS CPR/AED.

Compensation: $40-$45/Hr. (non-benefited position)

Hours: 10-20 Hrs/Week with some weekends

Open Board and Committee Positions With The Town of Nahant


Call Firefighters - August 5, 2020

The Nahant Fire Department is seeking applicants for the position of Call Firefighter.  The Nahant Fire Department is staffed with a combination of full-time employees supplemented by call-firefighters. 

The position of call-firefighter is a part time position.
This is an opportunity to serve your community in a challenging and rewarding position while earning pay, learning and developing new skills, and gaining valuable experience.

Nahant call-firefighters must successfully complete the Massachusetts Call/Volunteer Fire Academy and First Responder/CPR training.  Call firefighters are expected to attend monthly training sessions for fire and rescue duties as well as respond to emergency fire and rescue calls for service.  Call-firefighters average approximately 20 hours a month between training and emergency response.  Occasionally call-firefighters provide additional staffing during significant storms and special events.

Candidates for the position of call-firefighter must be between the age of 18-65, have a high school diploma (or equivalent), and hold and maintain a valid Massachusetts driver’s license.  Candidates must pass a pre-employment physical as well as a criminal and motor vehicle back ground check.
