Ellingwood Chapel Concert

Don Wilkenson will sing at Ellingwood Chapel on Saturday

The final concert of the 2004-2005 season at the Ellingwood Chapel in Nahant will feature Donald Wilkenson, a Nahant resident, and an internationally respected bass baritone. He will be accompanied by John Finney, Associate Conductor of the Handel and Hayden Society and others in a program that will highlight the Baroque.

The concert will be at 8 PM on Saturday, July 16. Admission will be $15 at the door, $10 for senior citizens.

Baritone Donald Wilkinson enjoys a distinguished career in concert, opera, oratorio, recital and contemporary music and has appeared throughout the United States and Canada. he will be featured in Mozart's opera The Magic Flute, presented by Boston based Emmanuel Music next season.

His career took off in the United States when, in 1990, he was awarded a prestigious fellowship to the Tanglewood Music Festival in Lenox, Massachusetts. Since then, he made his European debut performing the role of Dionysos in the World premiere of Theodore Antoniou's opera The Bacchae at the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. He has appeared subsequently in Germany (Kassel), France (Paris, Strasbourg, Saintes, Clisson, Ribeauvillé), and Holland (Utrecht).

Mr. Wilkinson has performed as soloist with Seiji Ozawa and the Boston Symphony Orchestra as well as with Christopher Hogwood and the Handel and Haydn Society in its recent U.S. tour.

Since 1984 he has been a soloist in Emmanuel Music's famed Bach Cantata Series under the direction of Craig Smith. Highly sought after for his interpretations of Bach, in 2003 he made his debut at the Northwest Bach Festival in Spokane in Bach's Christmas Oratorio and Mozart's Requium under the direction of Gunther Schuller.

Mr. Wilkinson teaches voice at Harvard University, Phillips Academy Andover, and maintains a private studio at his residence in Nahant, MA.

The exhibit will be on display in the Serenity Room (upstairs) at the Nahant Community Center on; Wednesday's, Thursday's, Saturday's and Sunday's in July commencing on July 9th.

Nahant Victorian Dance Workshop - Click Here For Info

Location: Nahant Country Club
The Dance Workshop will take place at the Nahant Town Hall, 334 Nahant Road, Saturday July 16 from 3 to 5 pm. The instructor will be Ben Bishop, host of the Ball and a member of the Commonwealth Vintage Dancers. He will be teaching the basics of late Nineteenth Century dance, including The Nahant Quadrilles, the level of instruction will be tailored to the needs of the participants. Comfortable clothes and flexible-soled shoes are recommended for the workshop.

Location: Nahant Country Club
The Victorian Ball will commence at 7:30pm, at the Town Hall, a beautiful Turn of the Century building. Dressing rooms will be available and the building will be open from 6:30pm for those who wish to change into their finery at the hall. This year's ball is being set in the 1890's. Come and relive the glory days when Nahant was a popular Summer destination for those wishing to escape the heat of the city. Live music will be provided by Spare Parts, bill Matthiessen, Liz Stell and Ann Hooper. A few dances will be taught during the Ball including the Nahant Quadrilles and Contra Dances. Formal or semi- formal attire is requested, period attire of the 1890's is encouraged (evening wear, day wear, or costumes appropriate to the Russian theme). Light refreshments will be provided at the intermission.
