Nahant Sailing Program Fundraising
Our program continues to thrive with the help
and support of the Town of Nahant and several fundraising efforts
including our Can & Bottle Recycling Drive, the Nahant Dory
Club Fiesta Event, Sailing Program T-shirt sales, and many generous
contributors.
The Sailing Program relies heavily on cash donations and volunteer labor.
Over the past twelve years many parents have volunteered to help conduct one Saturday morning Can Drive which is held at the Coast Guard Station parking lot each month. The Can Drive raises over $2,000 for the program each year.
This year we are asking parents to either assist with one Can Drive or to pay the full program fee (an additional $40. per child).
The Can Drive requires 3 hours of your time on one Saturday morning (8:45-12 noon) scheduled in advance. Several families work together to conduct the drive. The task involves setting up the signs and collection bags and boxes, sorting the bottles and cans, and keeping a careful count. The collection is picked up at noon by the Beverage Station of Salem.
Please sign the Parent Committment letter which indicates whether you elect to assist with the Can Drive or to pay the full sailing fee.
Please note that the cost of running the sailing program is approximately $400 per child, excluding the cost of the boats and major equipment. The difference between the actual cost and the fees that are charged is made up not only by the Town budget but by the Can Drive and by donations of volunteer labor and cash donations which fund several scholarships.
Thank you for supporting the Nahant Sailing Program.
Over the past twenty years the Nahant Dory Club
and Sailing Program friends have provided volunteer labor, equipment
and financial support to the Town of Nahant Sailing Program. Without
this help it would not have been possible for our small town to
offer a sailing program which is affordable for any youngster who
wishes to participate.
