JOB POSTING | CALL FIREFIGHTER/EMT

Position: Call Firefighter/EMT

The Town of Nahant Fire Department is seeking applicants for the position of Call Firefighter/EMT. This is skilled firefighting and emergency medical work consisting of combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires. Duties include responding to a wide range of fire suppression and medical emergencies in a community encompassing 1.0 square miles with a year round population of approximately 3,500.

The department's annual call volume is approximately 600 emergency calls a year with 60 % of those being emergency medical in nature. Work involves training for and participating in duties of protecting life and property through performing firefighting and rescue activities. Although firefighting and rescue work are the most difficult areas of the position, a significant portion of time is spent training and studying methods and techniques in routine station maintenance, equipment maintenance, and in varied department duties.

Position requirements: Must reside within the Town of Nahant or in a neighboring community within one (1) mile of the Nahant town line. Must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma, or GED. Must hold and maintain a valid Massachusetts driver's license.

Candidates must pass a pre-employment physical, criminal and motor vehicle back ground check. The person filling this position must be mature, honest, compassionate, able to work well with others, and willing and able to interact positively with the public. The candidate must be prepared to respond to Fire and EMS calls in all types of weather, day or night. Within one year of appointment candidates must attain a minimum of Firefighter I/II certification and Emergency Medical Technician – Basic.

JOB POSTING | PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE

Position: Part-time Public Health Nurse

Duties & Responsibilities:  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  Health assessment, prevention of the spread of communicable disease, emergency planning, and all public health responsibilities as mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.  The Public Health Nurse shall also follow-up of disease reports and investigations, enforcement of isolating and quarantine regulations, and control of outbreaks.  Other services include immunization and screening clinics, home visits, and community outreach and education.  Works under the direction of the Board of Health Officer and Town Physician.

Qualifications:  Minimum qualifications include current R.N. license from the Commonwealth  of  Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, and two years experience in community or public health nursing.  Must possess a valid driver’s license and registered vehicle.

JOB POSTING | ASSISTANT ASSESSOR CLERK

The Town of Nahant is seeking a qualified individual  to fill the role of a part-time Clerk working under  the supervision  of the Assistant Assessor. The Clerk provides important assistance to the Assistant Assessor in carrying out the ongoing duties of the Assessor's office, including overseeing and administering motor vehicle and boat excise taxes. The position requires  the ability to perform clerical duties and to work with several different software programs, organization, the ability to work closely with the Assistant Assessor but also to run a section of the office independently, and the ability to work well with the public and to represent  the Office well to the public.

Associate degree and three years' experience in municipal administration is desirable. A CORI check is a requirement for hire, also.
