We are very fortunate to have several groups in our community offer educational scholarships to help young people further their learning.

Below are the listings we are currently aware of. If your organization offers a scholarship please send in the information and we'll be happy to include it on this page.

The Christmas Parade Committee awards two $500 scholarships to members of this year's graduating class.
Tony Conigliaro Scholarship $2,500 July TBD Kelley Greens Golf Course
Scholarship is available to Nahant residents who are graduating from a public or private high school and continuing to college and demonstrated an interest in any aspect of the game of golf or any other sport (ie. baseball, football, soccer, lacrosse, etc. The candidate must have attained a high level of academic success and have been accepted to an accredited collage or university. Submit your application to Richard Conigliaro at Kelly Greens Golf Course, One Willow Road, Nahant MA. Application must include a copy of high school academic record, collage or university acceptance letter and a short essay on your interest in the sport and how you plan to pursue it.
The Rona Brodsky MemorialScholarship $500 May 16, 2008 Johnson School or
Swampscott High School

A $500.00 memorial scholarship was established in the fall of 1997 upon the sudden and untimely death of Rona Brodsky.  Miss “B” taught first grade at the Johnson School in Nahant for almost thirty years and she was known and loved by all.  This scholarship will be awarded to a member of the High School Class of 2006 who has been accepted by a two year or four year college leading to a degree.  Applications for this scholarship may be obtained at the Johnson School or Swampscott High School and must be returned to the Johnson School no later than May 16, 2008.

Captain Jennifer J. Harris Scholarship $1,000   Swampscott High School

The family of Captain Jennifer J. Harris, United States Marine Corp, has established a scholarship fund to honor her life and legacy of compassionate service to others.  From this fund, a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a Swampscott/Nahant Citizen entering college as a freshman.  For further information and application forms, please contact Swampscott High School or email Harris_Scholarship@verizon.net.  Application due date is April 20, 2007.

The Charles Kelley Annual Scholarship was established by residents of Nahant and the Nahant Board of Selectmen in memory of Mr.Kelley’s dedicated years of service.

Any Nahant resident who has been accepted to a two or four year accredited college is eligible for this scholarship. Please submit a short essay on what "Community Service" means to you. Please do not put your name on the essay. Please include a copy of the Letter of Acceptance with your essay. Applications must be received in the Selectmen's Office at the Nahant Town Hall by May 17th 2007.

Mr. Charles Kelley served for 33 years as a selectman for the Town of Nahant, this is the longest in the town’s history, and it is believed to be the longest in the modern history of Essex County.

Mr. Kelley’s political career started when he was elected to the School Committee in 1950 at the age of 22, he served as chairman of the committee from 1952 to 1955 and was instrumental in the planning and building of the Johnson School. Mr. Kelley when asked about his length of service was quoted as saying “ I’m not out to break records, I’m in politics because I love it and I hope I’m able to do something for my town.”

The Nahant Lions Club will award $500.00 to a Nahant student who meets the following criteria:

  1. Current Nahant resident
  2. Graduating from an accredited secondary school
  3. Acceptance to an accredited institution of higher learning

The award is based on citizenship, scholarship, extracurricular activities, and need. Interested applicants should submit a letter detailing how he or she meets the citizenship criteria, a transcript through the third quarter of the senior year, and a letter of acceptance from the institution of higher learning that the applicant plans to attend.

Nahant Garden Club Scholarship $1,000 May TBD Edith E. Hunnewell
In keeping with our annual tradition, we offer a $1,000.00 academic scholarship to a 2006 High School Graduate who has been accepted to an accredited institution of higher learning. The course of study should be related to environmental issues.  For more information regarding the qualifications and application, please contact:

John H. Osbahr Scholarship 2008 $500 May 15, 2008 Kathy Marini

A scholarship in the amount of $500.00 will be awarded to a 2006 Swampscott High School graduate who is a Nahant resident, a graduate of the Nahant Johnson School and has been accepted at an accredited two or four year college.

The winner of the scholarship will be announced at the 2006 Swampscott High School and Johnson School graduations in June.

Woman's Club Scholarship $1,000 May TBD Nahant Woman's Club
This scholarship is available to a graduate of this year's graduating class and will be awarded on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, community service and extra-curricular activities. Applicants should submit a letter of interest, high school transcript and letter of acceptance to an institution of higher learning to:
