Mass Audubon is preparing to conduct restoration work at Nahant Thicket Wildlife Sanctuary.
Restoration efforts will focus on three major goals:
If you have any questions regarding this project please contact Amber Carr: firstname.lastname@example.org (781) 259-2198
As of May 17th, the west end of Canoe Beach on East Point has been re-opened for resident use following a beach nourishment project conducted over the off-season.
In order to allow for resident use and enjoyment of Canoe Beach during the summer months, Northeastern University, along with the Nahant Conservation Commission and Selectmen, have decided to place the project on hold, while a determination is made on how the remainder of the work will be completed.
DCR Beach Water Testing
Recreational use of water with microbial contamination can pose health risks to swimmers and others. As a result, beach water quality is regulated to protect public health. In Massachusetts, bathing beach water quality is regulated by M.G.L. C.111 and other regulations to establish minimum standards for bathing beaches.

Planning a Wedding at a DCR State Park
DCR welcomes simple, small wedding ceremonies at many state parks and larger wedding celebrations at a limited number of parks.
If you interested in holding a wedding at a particular state park, contact the park’s staff to see if weddings are allowed, to check availability on the date, and to obtain direction on completing any required permits. Fees may apply. For a list of state parks, linking to contact information for each park click here.
Wedding Photos and Videos: Taking photos and videos during a permitted wedding ceremony does not require a separate permit. Taking wedding photography and videos in a state park for a non-permitted wedding requires a DCR Film and Photography Permit.
Popular DCR Locations for Wedding Ceremony:
Currently, no weddings are being permitted at the Summit House at DCR’s Joseph A. Skinner State Park in South Hadley, as it is closed for porch repairs and accessibility improvements. For information on events at Skinner State Park, call Mt. Holyoke Range State Park staff at
DCR’s Walden Pond State Reservation in Concord does not allow any weddings between Memorial Day in May and Columbus Day in October, due to high recreational use during that time. For more information, call staff at 978-369-3254; Email Address
